Ohhh it's not very often I agree with you AW but for once you are on the money (mostly) apart from being slightly ageist (?). Perhaps some north Walian "talent" is over the hill for the pop market but not for all. Thankfully the American market isn't so worried about age as we seem to be in the UK. And yes I do support some local talent as well you know, but that is what I look for talent, not a fashion accessory.
But all said and done, big record deals are few and fair between and as I've said before there is very little money for the artist in CD sales, only air play royalties. On average somebody like BMG for example will be paying an artist 45p for every CD sold - roughly 8% of wholesale price and the artist has then to pay their own expenses out of that.
If the band had a large advance off the label, for example on a 5 album deal a million pound advance is not unheard of and the album went platinum they would end up owning the label something like £110 000 at the end of 18 months (the life of an album today).
Meanwhile if you take a look at Coldplay's last single whathisface pocketed over £30 000 on air play royalties for the month from UK plays alone. But would they be where they are now without the big labels money to project them into the spotlight? It may not be a sell out, but it has to be a compromise.
But why worry, out of the whole of n.Wales I doubt I could count bands with what it takes to attract big labels on one hand, and that's the sad truth.

"I mean 'Smash the New World Order' ? it's all a bit 'wooooh Dan Brown' for me, you can smash a milk bottle or maybe a window but you can't really smash fiction, I suspect there's a 'middle class' social work type parentage thing somewhere amongst them, no lads you're not real but you can survive by preaching to the converted" Very far from right mate. Do some fucking research....ignore Dan Brown, Micheal Moore etc... heres a hint And what happend to this guy a couple of weeks later? youtube.com/watch?v=FnkdfFAqsHAMake "fiction" out of some FACTS and it can indeed become "fiction" to the masses. And saying we are not real? Based on fucking what...you know fuck all about us mate im sorry but you dont! Don't worry there is no offence being taken here. And preachin to the converted...i very much doubt it. Someone isnt paying attention! www.myspace.com/globalparasite

<<as in the north wales punk assembly a few old die hards, probably still holding onto the desire to be adored and respected within his/her own circle, probably still putting out stuff over the web, old stuff remixed, rare 'old' recordings that serve to remind the faithful of his/her heritage and validity to the current scene or whatever but it's all bollocks>>
The North Wales punk assembly as you put it, is completely run by the Global Parasite crew - average age being 23, hardly old die-hards - Die Hards yes, but they're in bands making new music, and maybe four years ago they were so insular that you'd get gobbed on if you weren't a punk and either shunned or treated with hostility. The scene in Colwyn Bay is mutating and expanding, and that once 'closed shop' now sees the likes of Dave Cox and company showing up at Racketears gigs, applauding The Upstarts and even talking to Lantern - three bands there from 3 different genres. I don't see many old die hards still holding onto the desire to be adored and respected within his/her own circle - oh shit, you meant me didn't you, or am I just flattering myself?

pet sounds isn't me.
I couldn't muster the energy to type that, let alone have the insight to think of (most of) it in the first place.

Oh, and I love Smash the N.W.O.
Music is dead the millisecond that those making it stop believing that it can change the world for the better.
How many vegetarians do I know because of the Smiths?
How many activists and do-ers do I know who were influenced by Crass or Conflict?
Global Parasite aren't going to change the world by themselves. But by raising awareness and asking questions [even if they are questions that have been asked before], bands like GP nudge us closer to potential answers and solutions.
That is of tremendous value.

Sorry Adam for the assumption, which was based on the essay style of the reply. But I still stand by my remark that I doubt I could count bands with what it takes to attract big labels on one hand. There's plenty of bands out there but very few with anything to offer. It's not just n.Wales that suffers from this but it's country wide. Sorry if I bruised any egos but you don't need my support when you can fill the local pub with your mates each time you play there. BUT if you believe in what you are doing is right don't get pissy when somebody disagrees.

Bands should get off there arses, its not a massive country really theres fucking thousands of venues/promoters, and if Global "pile of shite" can do it WITHOUT a driving licence and very limited means to getting to gigs surely other bands can! Making friends and networking, fuck worrying about your big record deal and making it big, that should be the last thing you think about, ok it bloody well helps but i do believe alot of people just miss the fucking point in all of this but blah blah blah this could become very tedious. If a band plays locally (and not too often) then obviously their gig will have alot of people there, obviously alot of these people being friends, alot of these friends made through the band too, but, there we go Bon jovi all the way baby

Hey Matt you could use that as part of your future promotion - Global Parasite the band with a low carbon footprint. But you're right, bands need to get off their arses and discover towns in the UK ( and not take a coachloads of mates with them) play to new crowds, see if they can then cut it. As you well know it's an eye opener.

The point is their aint nothing new from North Wales, If you asked yourselve's honestly you'd know that were all just rehashed band's of who we'd like to be! If your politcal, do a degree and become a politician (don't sayNO cos politicians are corrupt cos it makes you sound stooopid, pardon the spelling len) otherwise stop reading shite off the internet, video's off youtube and stuff, and stop thinking your in the know cos your not, this world doesnt work but neither do you. I am the same. High horses are rode, but to what port? Get big or not it don't matter, cos life is a joke and if life was deserved all of you would be dead as your all a waste of fucking time cos pretetion's the reason your smelling of shit and not of fame which you all want one way or another, I am mama roach, I am all of you, and I am ashamed to be part of you, every self righteous fucking one of you cunt's, if you can't enjoy life without moaning fucking DIE and if you want to be CLEVER enough and I mean CLEVER enough to confront a world leader apart from " scream and destroy" or "were not happy enough to make are own life happy in this cess pit" with a decent enough arguement to change existence, then go forth, but I know and we all know, that some no fucking hoper with whatever dreams of adulation, wether it be stardom or revolution hasn't got one decent fucking point to make. Music is music, so fucking enjoy it!
