Gorilla Biscuits Manchester Academy 2, 12/10/2007 (review by steve brute) I only recently got into Gorilla Biscuits, and when tinman (ton from instant agony) asked if i wanted to go see them i figured i might aswell. I have money that i used to spend on booze that can go towards gigs. ace. for those who don't know who Gorilla Biscuits are, they're pretty much pioneers of New York Hardcore. right, i can't remember who the support bands were. mainly because nobody said who they were, and neither did the bands. well, i don't think so anyway. but like denbigh dog said, it's all about the biscuits tonight. For those who don't know, GB haven't toured the uk since 1989. so it was a big deal for any biscuit fan, wether you knew about them back int day or heard about them a few months ago. i didn't know what to expect, but when that trumpet intro for "new direction" started....oh dear!!!! as soon as that first strum on the guitar was played, people were climbing the stage and diving straight off again. allways a bonus when there's no barrier between the band and the crowd and when there's no security!! the band were full of energy, the crowd were too. and it's allways amusing watching a fat fucker try and stage dive. they just look like theyre running off the stage. it's also amusing watching a drunk fat guy bumping into people, then he comes up to me bumps into me and falls flat on his face. wriggles around on the floor, gets up, falls down, gets up and wanders off into the insanely brutal (and light up) pit. nice fella, didn't get his name though! might have been paul, he looked like one. anywho, GB were on fire. playing every song that they have done. only 2 albums, but 2 very good albums. and playing 2 CIV tracks as a cheeky bonus (the band after GB). and ending with "Start Today", harmonica solo included!! fucking ace set!! i was smiling through out the set and to be honest i still have a smile on my face typing this and remembering the set again! it's refreshing to see and hear how hardcore should be done, not like most bands who say they're hardcore but are wank. listen to Gorilla Biscuits, educate yourself! and just to let you know, that's not a pic of the Manchester gig cause i didn't take my camera, it's a random recent biscuits gig, here's a stage dive.......

ste straight edge lol, have u seen how many cups of coffee he gets thru at gigs!
Speaking of trumpets, Joe, we need your trupet blowing for something on our forthcoming album (its release will take an age!)...dont worry there's no clique ska involved! We have want the album to be one piece of music so we need some musicians (we are all blagging our instruments...apart from dave!) for the bits between songs?
Anyone know any violinists/chello players?

yer mate, i like the look of that guy with blonde hair though, he looks like he's expecting a piano to land on him! found a video from this night on youtube: youtube.com/watch?v=Pm9HyuV2Bucdoesnt quite portray the intensity of the actual gig in video format but you get the idea

i've fwked myself up royally stage diving, but still retained a smile. I also like to think folks are pleasantly suprised with my lack of weight when i land on their heads, though bones and big boots kind of even things up.

I guess - looking at the pic that there's few unsuspecting sore heads after that stage dive! Serves them right for not paying attention...!
Also is that Steve Brute's face partly obscured by the diver's right shoe? I only ask cos it looks like he's holding a cup of coffee... heh heh heh!

Good review Ste, it was one of the best gigs I've been to this year. Let's hope that they don't leave it another 15 years before touring Europe again!
