I phoned up work and told them i have the shits, there's no way I'm missing H2O!
After a drive down to Corwen to help out Tinman with some bulky signs, we switched vehicles and collected the other three travelling with us. The drive took longer than expected, but we got to the venue in time so no worries there. CHIEF and SSS had to, unfourtunatley, pull out of the gig due to injurys and pneumonia. But, there are another 3 bands to go on so all is not lost!
The COLD ONES were the first band on, they were good. Reminded me of Nerve Agents and Said Radio mixed with a bit of Gorilla Biscuits. But, the only criticism i have, is that the band were facing away from the crowd and were getting annoyed that the crowd werent moving around. My opinion is that, if the band are into the songs and it shows (moving around etc) then the crowd get more into the songs. Despite the shyness(?) i enjoyed their set.
I havn't heard anything by STRENGTH APPROACH, but I quickly found out that they are an Italian Hardcore band. They're a very passionate band, playing in the vein of Madball. Good stomping fun had by all. They placed their breakdowns in all the right places and had backing vocals that made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. I enjoyed them, and as soon as i get more money i'll be purchasing their album!
The next band was what the evening was about. I've never seen this band before, but heard plenty by them. They haven't been over to this country in 10 years(?) and their last album was 7 years ago. H2O hit the stage starting with '1995' and then into 'Everready'. Good ol' melodic NYHC! the band were amazing, better than i could ever imagined they would be like! But, like in the past, the crowd were shite. The gig was packed, you couldn't really move around, but the crowd weren't getting into it for some reason. I'm glad to say that the NWHC lot (or NWPR whichever!) owned the pit! They played pretty much everything i wanted them to play! I noticed they din't play anything from their "GO!" album (their major label release). I do like go, but it doesn't have the same passion as their previous albums and their new album "Nothing To Prove". They end the set with 'What Happened?', a song about how the scene has lost it's passion and respect, bieng overrun by (in Denbigh Dog's words) "Floppy Haired Cunts!". A fitting end to how the crowd were like last night. But at least they weren't as bad as the crowd at the Sick Of It All gig in Stoke.
Well, 11pm and it's time to get chips, cheese & mayo and another treck home. Some have work in the morning, unlike yours truly who has the "shits"!!
(pics to come of the gig!! haha!)
