Alright? My name is Gethin Evans I work for a charity called Community Music Wales. For the past fifteen years and CMW have built up considerable expertise in informal music training and developed excellent models of good practice, making us the leading organisation in Wales in this field. All departments are cross cut by Ciwdod, our Welsh language initiative, ensuring that we also provide specialised training through the medium of Welsh.
Our community music tutor- training program has been running since 1992, with trainees going on to work as tutors in a variety of settings. In 1997 the programme was recognised as a vocational qualification in informal music training in Wales. The training is both practical and academic and is good practise for the work itself.
As part of our work in the community this year, I am organizing a 5 day tutor training course in the Conwy area (venue to be confirmed), and I'm looking for people who would like to take part in the course, its free!
The Course covers a range of theory and practice in community music, with practical workshops from professional community music trainers. It will include group work skills, assertiveness, devising and adapting workshop material, planning projects, working with other people’s musical ideas and teaching skills. By the end of the course participants should be able to lead music workshops in a range of settings. It also ensures that trainees have a basic understanding of the role of a workshop tutor.
Courses are designed for the following groups:
* Those with music skills, who work with disadvantaged groups or who would like to incorporate music into the work of their organisation
* Musicians who want to become self-employed community music tutors
* Those with music skills who would like to use those skills in a community setting
* Individual Music teachers/tutors who would like to work with groups
If you would like more information or would like to chat, feel free to phone me on 01286 685 248 or email me on
