all you grind fans out there will have seen Reth reviewed live here over the years, and their protracted development has led to this first proper release that the wait is well worth while. musical lightweights wont get past even half a listen but like most lasting favourites even for those immersed in the music there's too much here to take in at first. But while your head is starting to reel in the hyperspeed technical structures there's a moment about a minute a half into "rational actor/definitive host" where they deliver such a wince/smile inducing aural punch to the face through combined instrument assault that you just have to admire and pay attention. With the whole recording only lasting 20 minutes yet the impression is that there is quantity as well as quality as just so much is crammed into these brutal blasts. the surgical precision in their delivery seems incredibly well honed and there's a good understanding of how to keep the songs interesting and diverse while still maintaining a feel of relentless car-crash carnage. The production is also immense, punishingly distorted guitars that retain clarity of the detail of the riff-mania, and thundering drums that have a massive live sound, such a bounus when so many fast bands are reduced to overproduced techno-clicks. Topped off with their impressive new vocalist who can easily run the whole range of extremity, this is a benchmark amongst the uk's best underground tech-grinders like fellows Co-exist and Heresy of Thieves, and should more than make up for the recent sad demise of Narcosis. get it via their www.myspace.com/reth
