The gig schedules are getting sorted as we speak, as Caskeys has acted both as a terrific long term opportunity and as a short term spanner in the works.
In the short term it's forced me to re-examine the way in which I operate as it's been obvious that gig attendances generally have nosedived in the last couple of years and so three changes are going to occur in the short term that will hopefully give things a bit of a lift.
Firstly I'll be concentrating primarily on the under 18s shows for now.
One thing that is very apparent is that the scene has somehow lost the ability to replace the audience members lost to university, something that we always managed to do in the days when Bar Blu was at its busiest, and I feel that the only way we're going to be able to reverse the trend is by hooking people into the scene at an earlier age.
Secondly, the 18+ gigs that I do put on will be much more generic in nature, something that I see as a commercial necessity but which makes me sad on a personal level as the idea of putting music of different genres on the same bill was a heartfelt attempt to de-ghettoise music.
Thirdly, there will be a lot more quality control exercised in terms of the acts that I put on at these gigs.
Again, that is taking a bolt-gun to one of my sacred cows, as I always wanted the venues I operated in to act as springboards for young bands to get their first taste of moving out of the rehearsal den and into the public arena and while this meant that we sometimes unearthed some rough diamonds (Gintis, Der Bomber etc), I have to concede that we also hosted a fair amount of stuff that was too undercooked for public consumption.
The Macc Lads rumours are true in the sense that we are looking to bring name acts to the venue but this will happen in the medium term once we've got the nuts and bolts of the place sorted out.
We've got an excellent PA and DJ set-up in place both upstairs and downstairs but we've still got to sort out the lighting and the decor before we're going to be operational to the standards that most touring bands will expect.
Other names currently in the frame include The Bluetones and a raft of late 70s/ early 80s punk and oi bands and we're also hoping to call in a favour and get Saxon to play there as a warm up for their next UK tour.
Can't wait for the game at Elland Road - it'll be interesting to see how the likes of Beckford, Howson, Johnson and Snodgrass measure up against..............................Lucas!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck with the 'new' venue Steve. Ironically, our first ever gig was in 'Caskeys' back in November 2004! Madness

I remember the occasion well, the three of you were so fresh-faced that you looked like you'd bunked in from school!!!
Initially at least, the gigs will be upstairs but we've got the option of moving downstairs if we outgrow the smaller room.
