Blood & Lipstick and Black Valve have been informed by the management at Bar Blu that they are not welcome to work at the gig they've booked at the venue on Wednesday so instead we're going to be spinning some indie/alt rock tunes at Billy's Bar (AKA The Honey Club) on Rhyl Promenade on Wednesday, June 13 from 7.30 pm. Admission is free, there'll be some drinks deals available and the night is a kind of low-key prelude to the full line up of gigs that will be unveiled at the new venue from Wednesday, June 20.

Well I must say Blu's attitude sucks. I'm sure we all wish Steve and crew all the best at Billy's. Time to show Blood and Lipstick your support folks.

Does that mean the gig is cancelled?

I don't know whether it's cancelled, although 4 Sticks and Dead Before Dawn have both informed me that they won't play in protest. I don't particularly want to get into any debate about Blu - it was a part of my life from 27th March 2003 -6th June 2007, amen.

Wo, just incase...that post was in no way aimed at the organisers or anything like that. The place just seemed to attract dicks, nearly everytime i went there i witnessed some punter with an attitude and all that. The change is definitley an improvement, and i know just from seeing myspace bulletins that the new venue will be well supported.

It's the end of an era - and yes, every venue has it's problems, but like B&L said, without Blu willing to stick its neck out over 4 years ago there would not have been such a huge North Wales scene. Yes, the Dudley punk contingent would've continued onwards and upwards regardless, but even a lot of the crossover bands have benefitted from Blu, particularly the vibrant Colwyn Bay scene of late. The complaints mentioned above about Bar Blu are common with any venue (maybe not the sound) - but the nobheaded people will still turn up and the Bouncers aren't there to be your friend. Everyone complained bitterly about The Bistro when it was open - how shit it was, dress codes, awful DJs, worse bands - and now they're dewy eyed and nostalgic about such a great place that doesn't exist anymore. I feel very sorry for Tony at Blu as he has ultimately tried to run a business and support a live music scene as well, whereas other 'venues' in Rhyl would take the money in the lean winter months and fuck the bands off when the holidaymakers turn up. Just take a look back at FOUR years of live reviews on http;//www.link2wales.co.uk/10gig.htm as a reminder of how fucking good the place has been. It is a pity for him that Rhyl isn't a bigger place. The town simply cannot sustain 2 venues vying for the same crowd on the same night, and Steve Rastin holds all the cards. I also feel sorry for Steve. His decision is not one of personal or financial gain it is for the love of a local live music scene; one that he has almost single handedly run for the last 4 years. And having known him for 20 years I know he is not someone who'd shit on you (he may give you a crap review in the paper!). I've not spoken to him at all over this news, but I know he will have done it through fear of the scene falling apart. My only hope is there are still people out there willing to support it - Scenes are generational - quiet nights in Blu were quiet - a quiet night in Billy's wide open spaces would be deathly...

I'm pretty gutted that we won't be able to call a night the last Blu, and as I am a huge fan of 3AC, gutted that they can't play their last ever gig with the full line-up. But I feel optimistic for honey club. And I agree with Crud that a quite night in febuary will be dead in the massive place. But atleast they have nice carpet...

Yes Im in agreement , Ive met a lot of people and bands in blu and as a sound engineer I have always wanted to try and help Tony but from day one personalities clashed and either way I do respect that they had the balls to do that but having the balls to do something is one thing dealing with the consequences of that thing is another.
Bands nights take a hell of a lot or effort from the promoter to the sound to even the bar staff.
I wish blu well but I want everyone to know that I intend with steve's help and the community's help to turn the wednesdays into something worth going to , getting bands in that have names not just shite like green minge etc.
This may be the end of an era but its a dawn of something much bigger.
I would also like to add that I will be supporting all the venues across the north wales coast and I would like to hope that the same extension would be given to us.
That way we get a better music scene over all.
But then again I could just be speaking shit
