Blood & Lipstick Junior will be launching in June with the aim of putting on nights that can be attended by 14-17 year-olds, either as part of a general audience or as events that are exclusive to that age group. It's come about because it seems that most adults are more than willing to moan about "bloody kids hanging around on street corners" but very few are willing to do anything positive or constructive to deal with the problem. Ian Gunning, a police officer whose brief is to work in conjunction with people from this age group, is an honourable exception and Blood & Lipstick were more than happy to get involved when he approached Bar Blu in Rhyl about putting an under 18s night on at the venue. Blood & Lipstick in turn has drafted in 14 year-old Caitlin Morris as part of the team and she will be involved in the organisation and co-ordination of upcoming events, including the day-to-day running of the Blood & Lipstick Junior MySpace site. A number of venues have already expressed an interest in these events and B&L Junior will be working both in conjunction with and independantly of Ian Gunning and his team in the coming weeks and months. The events will include dance, RnB and hip-hop as well as the rock and indie with which Blood & Lipstick is more usually associated and so we'll be looking to work with DJs and MCs as well as bands on the initiative. i think this is a great thing, when i was 14 i had mase, which played a big part growing up, but since mase has gone abit down hill since the glory days kids need things to do. I also think its great merging dance RNB and hip-hop with the rock and indie side of things, hopefully it wont cause conflict like it did in the mase days. good luck with the new project.
its good to see not all police are fools too, nice one Ian Gunning, whoever you are!
